Extra Train Services for Wings Over Wairarapa
Wairarapa tourism will get a boost in February next year with confirmation that TransDev will be running special train services from Wellington for the Wings Over Wairarapa air show say local MP Alastair Scott.
“This is great news for our community. Wings Over Wairarapa already brings in around 30,000 visitors to the Wairarapa each year,” Mr Scott said.
“Special train services will encourage more people from Wellington to come up for the three-day event. It will also help reduce the amount of traffic over the Rimutaka Hill.
“Tourism is essential to the Wairarapa economy, so it is important that we have the services available to support visitors coming to the region, especially for major events such as this.
“Statistics from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment show that each year there is an increase in visitors from New Zealand and abroad to the Wairarapa. These visitors are also staying for longer. This translates into more money into our hospitality and retail industries.
“I have been advocating for more frequent train services on the Wairarapa line since I came into office. I am pleased that this is a step in the right direction.
“I look forward to Wings Over Wairarapa next year. It will be a fantastic day for locals and tourists to enjoy the air show, as well as the food, wine and activities on offer” Mr Scott said.
